Hello! I’m Dr. Kate Wright,
a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner practicing in Southwest King County. I am a white, cis-gendered, straight woman who uses she/her pronouns, and I am committed to being an ally and advocate to POC and LGBTQ+ communities. Before my role as a nurse practitioner, I worked for 20 years as a social worker and psychotherapist in hospital, community and private practice settings. There are no words to express the meaning that this work has brought to my life and I am very grateful to work in such a fulfilling field.
My Approach to Mental Health Care
I think about medications as one part of a much bigger picture around what helps people feel well and build lives that are rewarding for them. My therapeutic training is in relational and psychodynamic work, meaning that I care about your experience with me as a person as well as a provider. I want to know what is working and what isn’t so that I can best support you. I also value collaboration with other folks on my patients’ care teams, and will go the extra mile to reach out to family members, therapists, primary care providers, and school counselors when my patients need this. My training as a social worker has emphasized the importance of advocacy and I am very familiar with the ins and outs of our health care system and local community resources.
Education & Training
I have my Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Seattle University, and my Master in Social Work from University of Pennsylvania. I have advanced training in maternal-infant bonding, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and trauma treatment.
I am certified perinatal mental health specialist, and am involved in several local organizations including Perinatal Support Washington, the Northwest Alliance for Psychoanalytic Studies, and Northwest Immigrants Rights Project.
